From the excellent 1981 Australian miniseries, based on the Neville Shute novel. With Bryan Brown and Helen Morse. I got the VHS tapes at Amazon.com. I hope this comes out on DVD soon.

Yes definitely. Unlike the Peter Finch/Virginia McKenna version this tells the whole story of the book and the acting of Bryan Brown and Helen Morse is superb. Get it if you can.

Hell yeah!! I saw most of it on PBS around 1983 and I was gripped. I haven't seen it again till I looked it up here on YouTube just this moment. Bryan Brown's best work. In the eighties, these Masterpiece Theater classics really commanded attention and were seen by millions. I recall seeing posters for it in bus stops.

  • @meloveyou38 it's a series

  • Hi, can anyone tell me if this movie is as good like the book? if so, I think I'll watch it :)

  • Does anyone know who owns the rights to this mini series????

We need to lobby them to release it OFFICIALLY on DVD

  • is this the one where bryan brown was moving the hay

  • Please put this on dvd.... I'm longing to watch the whole series again !

  • I remember watching this on Masterpiece Theatre on PBS... It made such an impression that when I travelled to Australia I HAD to visit Alice Springs..

  • put this on DVD!!

  • My all time favorite mini series. Incredibly moving and engaging. Certainly the best thing Bryan Brown and Helen Morse ever did. They had tremendous chemistry, and the script almost outshone the book and when is the last time that happened? Definately deserves a new DVD edition , with restored color maybe.
