Art photos of Cher with Sonny Bono along with Cher's version of Our Day Will Come, written by The Letterman (Bob Hilliard, Mort Garson) and recorded by Cher in 1966 for the Imperial record label. I checked her albums released in 1966, and found "Our Day Will Come" listed on "The Sonny Side of Cher." This was Cher's second solo album and was recorded on the Liberty Label.

I first heard "Our Day Will Come," on a compilation album of previously released recordings in 1972 to take advantage of Cher's rocketing popularity due to the over night sensation that was The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour. The compilation was entitled Cher Super Pak, there were two of these compilations released and each was a double album. The album covers on both Super Pak albums were printed with the simple title Cher with a cover photo of just Cher. Our Day Will Come was included on the Super Pak Volume 2 album with a photo of the newly glamourous Cher, elegantly dressed in a jeweled and sequined Bob Mackie outfit. The albums were titled Super Pak Volume One and Super Pak Volume Two but these titles were printed on the shrink wrap packaging and I tossed those as soon as I got home so I had to look on e bay to find out which was volume one and volume two.
The Cher Super Pak volume one album had a very dark close up photo of Cher with her 1960's era bangs with heavy shadows and her features barely visable. In hindsight this cover was probably done to appeal to fans of Cher's folk songs. For the video for Our Day Will Come, I used a photo of Cher perched on Sonny's shoulders wearing a bikini as they frollicked in the pool at their first home in Encino, California. Cher was 19 years old at the time the photo was taken. This song has always been one of my favorite recordings by Cher. Enjoy the video and the songs message of hope for the future.

Inspiration for the song.....on some sites I found that the title was inspired by a quoation by Abraham Lincoln, that was inscribed over the stage in the auditorium at Akron Central High School in Akron, Ohio "I will study and get ready, and some day my chance will come". Those who attended Akron Central High School in the early 1960s will recall hearing that song sung getween classes by members of the group, Ruby and The Romantics. Not sure if this is true, but it makes a good story

  • Nice version!

Amusing that they left the guitar mistake at 1:35 on the record, those were other times! :-)

  • @cherstyler you forgot Spiral Starecase's 1968 version...and don't forget Amy Winehouse's (RIP) one dropping this December 2011!!!

  • my favorite version!

  • I too was introduced to the two superpak albums in '72 and from there I found several Sonny and Cher albums from the early years. My favorite is the double album "The Two Of Us" featuring the duo in matching rhinestone jackets on the cover and containing a host of FABULOUS songs too numerous to mention here. I was just a kid then, and I memorized each and every word as I did with Cher's two superpacks . . . KARAOKE ANYONE?

  • I love most of the versions of this song. Have you heard Amy´s?? Just amazing!!!

  • I love this version VERY much, but how could anybody forget Frankie Valli's wonderful version in 1975, which is not listed above?

  • I LOVE YOU BABYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This fine Cher arrangement of "Our Day Will Come" has a rhythm similar to Bob Lind's 1966 "Elusive Butterfly" ... *love* this Cher version of ODWC...

  • Very enjoyable, Cher's vocal delivery is good!

  • cher always was and still is beautiful but i just love the old pictures of her with her face round and so innocent she looks so sweet!
