Sabeel: "The Way"

Sabeel, Arabic for "The Way", was founded by Liberation Theologist Naim Ateek, Episcopal Canon, Jerusalem, to reach out to Christians, Muslims and Jews struggling for peace in Palestine/Israel. Stating a 10-point process that articulates a Palestinian perspective, Dr. Ateek travels throughout the US to tell Americans what it will take to end the seemingly endless conundrum that has ravaged Palestinian society and become the root of much violence throughout the Middle East. Sabeel conference speakers add their voices to Dr. Ateek's logic. Included are Theologian Marc Ellis, Baylor University, Peace Advocate Mubarak Awad, Israeli citizens Jeff Halper and Roni Hammermann, Lawyers Michael Tarazi and Sherene Abdul-Hadi. To show that Palestinians have long sought a reasonable, just peace, but have been repeatedly rebuffed by Israeli opposition, this piece begins with a message from Dr. Haider Abdul-Shafi, chief negotiator at the Madrid Peace Talks, 1991. As I said, enemies in Islam are defined by what they do, not their religions. This clear from the Quran, the the context and situations in which the various parts were revealed. E.g as Muslims were fighting non-believers and instructed to massacre them on the battle field, at the same time they were living besides other non believers that they did not attack. You just called for the deaths of 1 billion people through a nuclear holocaust and you call us "cycos"?

This is not a religious conflict. People use religion to mask what it really is - a humanitarian and human rights outrage. Israel is merely repeating history - man's hatred towards his own fellow man. This applies to people of every 'nation' 'creed' 'culture' and 'colour'. Justice for Palestine will lead to peace for Israel, not the 'separation barrier'. Israeli greed has no future...
