how to make light sabers using gimp

due to youtube and a stupid copywrite law the song is no longer nickleback - if nobody cared it's now soem song by creed anyways enjoy

this is my first video so enjoy and it would be nice to see some of the pictures you make using this effect

1. open up gimp
2. open up a picture of you holding a pole or a torch or something that looks like a light saber
3. to the left it should say back ground right click this and select new layer then a little screen should pop up u can change the name of this but it doesnt realy matter. make sure black is selected as a couler and also select foreground couler then click ok.
4.then on the left again it should have anouther thing come up abouve background called whatever you called it select this and go to the drop down bar (above it) and select screen (you have to do this otherwise you would have a black picture)
5.select around were u want your light saber beam to go and couler in with the brush tool white.
6.then right click on your picture and got to select~none.
7.then go to the left agin and right click the new layer you made and click duplicate layer do this 2 times.
8.go to the first layer agin (not the background layer) and select it and then go to fliters~blur~gaussian blur and change both selecters to 5.00, the second duplicate and go to filters~blur~gaussian blur and turn both selecters to 20.00, then go to the last duplicate layer and go to filters~blur~gaussian blur and turn both selecters to 40.00
9.select the top layer and right click and select merge down then it should go black again with just the white bits blured, u must go to the drop down again and select screen, do the same with the next one now you should be left with 2 layers.
10. changing the couler of the light saber select the top layer and go to coulers~couler balance then you can move the sliders about untill u have the perfect couler for you then press ok.
11.now all u have to do is merge the top layer down and save and there you have your light saber.
