2 On 2 Open Ice Challenge is an ice hockey arcade game released by Midway in 1995. It was ported to PlayStation in 1996 and PC (Windows) in 1997.

This game is an official licensed product of the NHLPA (National Hockey League Players Association). It features the voice of the legendary NHL announcer Pat Foley. Over 100 real players, each player's skill level reflects his real NHL ability.

This is the only NHL game that has had the rights to have both of hockey's greatest, Wayne Gretzky & Gordie Howe (Hidden Player) in the same game.

Developer(s): Midway
Release date(s): 1995 (Arcade)
1996 (PlayStation)
1997 (PC)
Genre(s): Sports game
Mode(s): Up to 4 players
Platform(s): Arcade Game, PlayStation, PC
Input: 8-way Joystick, 3 Buttons

I'm using the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, playing against the CPU, Ottawa Senators.

Please Note:

This has nothing to do with this years Stanley Cup Finals, I just happen to come across them while playing the game, I think they were the second opponent you have to play against.

Also, I'm not a professional player, I just play for fun.

If you would like a fun challenge, and a friendly game, I would be happy to play against you guys. =)

    Check again!

  • @DJBennett1985 What do you mean? He's not a hidden player, he is on the Kings lineup.

  • @aznpikachu215 What I mean is that there are other games that have rights to Gretzky's & Howe's names... most recently being NHL 12 :)

  • @DJBennett1985 That's really unfair if you're comparing an old 90s game to NHL 12...

  • This game is fantastic i remember when i was a kid i would use The Mighty Ducks or Kings because of Gretzky, LoL. Then when i was older i would just pick the Devils. Thomas/Richer then sub in Scotty Stevens.

  • Ha, same with me, I like the Ducks better because of Kariya, kind of wish I could combine them into Kariya/Gretzky combo, or Kurri.

  • @aznpikachu215 No, he's saying at the time it was but now NHL 12 does too.

  • This looks fun.

  • i own the cabinet and nba jam

  • When I was a freshman in college (1996-'97), my dorm had the 4-player arcade cabinet of this. I'm a Bruins fan to the death and played a lot of Ray Borque but when I didn't select them, the Maple Leafs were my team because of 'The Killer' Doug Gilmour. Good times :)

  • actually nvrm

  • i have the game on the MAME32K emulator but how do i insert coins?
