- The S.S. Thistlegorm was carrying railway cars, trucks, motorcycles, aircraft wings and arms meant for the British Eighth Army when she was sunk on October 6, 1941, only a year after her launch. German planes dropped two bombs on her afterdeck as she waited to pass through the Suez Canal. Almost 15 years later, her shattered hulk had become an underwater garden of life, encrusted with oysters, bryozoans, sponges and corals that sheltered darting, swirling fish.

yes LKJ03, but there are good dive stories and videos on the net too. My personal favorite is the myscubastory site. It has videos, stories and pics too. Type top dive stories into google and its the 1st or 2nd one

@TerryDNo @TerryDNo Uh, mister know-it-all: you do know that Cousteau was a) the guy who invented the regulator and more or less gave start to the scuba diving as is exist today b) was the first one to dive to Thistlegorm and the one who found the wreck? The reason why they aren't wearing BCDs and other stuff is, you know, because they hadn't been invented yet.

I hope they raise the railway engines and the rolling stock.

Made in 1955 and first released in may 1956. The movie is the legendary "Le Monde du Silence", directed by both Jacques-Yves Cousteau and Louis Malle. Those images of 1955 were shot a few after the discovery of the ship, discovered by Cousteau himself.
