#18 is the only surviving locomotive of the long gone Boyne City, Gaylord, and Alpena railroad that operated in the northern lower penninsula of Michigan in the 20's and 30's. Not a single piece of the railbed is left, as it is all developed now.
@katelo1234 Welcome to real railroads, the soot is going to be a guarantee if you sat in an open car. I find it part of the experience to get a little soot on you, part of the point in going.
@HobbyTeen15 hahahaaha o thats why,if u wana see a big 2-8-0 D&H had some of the largest ones not the camble backs but there traditional 2-8-0s are huge!
@shininghappyperson7 the original rear truck for the tender is broken and they have had a caboose truck on the back of the tender for the longest time obviously that caboose truck is a little too tall :P
@shininghappyperson7 It is very small compared to monster 2-8-0s like SOU 630, or an ex-Army 2-8-0, but #18 is extremely typical of an average shortline engine of the '20. She is light enough for the flimsy track, but powerful enough for the grades. As for the tender, I honestley have no idea...
I found the train pretty cool but the rail yard was a mess, parking was very hard to find. My family an I road in the open car and found the soot overwhelming at times
Freakin awesome
