First 10 minutes of HD Video from my 2008 widescreen DVD "Thurston OO" showcasing the multi-award winning 4mm scale exhibition layout of Ely and District Model Railway Club. Modelled on the prototype of this (still open) Suffolk station near Bury St Edmunds as it was in the late 1950's, the layout took us more than 10 years to research and build. The complete 20 minute film took me 6 weeks to film and edit (using Sony HC1 / Vegas) so look out for Part 2, the last 10 minutes, on YouTube too. You can buy the DVD at our shows (only 5 Quid on DVD and 10 Quid for .m2t HDV version). All proceeds to Ely MRC to help fund our modelling.

Also, see the second half of this film on this link:

More information about Shooting Image Ltd (now all professional Full HD Sony PMW-EX3 / Canon 7D / Apple FCS and Adobe Production Premium based) and our affordable corporate video, web video and special interest DVD work in Cambridge, East Anglia and beyond here http://www.shootingimage.co.uk

  • I first went to try and find a video of Thurston thanks to Model Rail - i really enjoyed it and it's one of my favourite layouts - great job guys!

  • Thurston 00 will be exhibited at York Model Railway Show over the Easter weekend in early April, 2010. See some of you there!

  • @AndyKWilkinson Thurston will next be shown at Tolworth Show in November 2011. In the last year or so we've done shows as far apart as Glasgow and Taunton. There is even a potential invite in Cornwall next year in the offing - maybe!

  • Actually it took more than 10 years for us to build this layout and me 4 years to build the main station building (mainly because I was frequently away with work at that time!). Glad you like the video and the model!

  • Absolutely lovely - super footage, sounds, quality and voice-over.... please post more!

  • When you say it takes x years to build a model building, does this include the scenery around it, or just the building itself? Great layout!
