This documentary on Hollywood maverick Nicholas Ray was directed by David Helpern Jr. and James C. Gutman with commentary by Myron Meisel. Meisel also conducted most of the interviews with Ray.

The is the full version of the documentary, complete with all of it's illustrative film clips which have been eliminated from some versions of the film.

A big appeal of this film is the remarkable insight it provides to the making of "We Can't Go Home Again" -- the legendary and elusive film which Ray made with his students at SUNY Harpur College in Binghamton, New York.

The film is narrated by Howard Da Silva and features interviews with Ray himself as well as with Tom Farrell, Natalie Wood, John Houseman, François Truffaut, and Leslie Levinson.
