I'm pretty excited about a Coleman Kerosene Lantern given to me by a neighbor. It was in excellent condition when I received it. I cleaned it up a bit since it was sitting in the neighbor's garage for many years. I thought it would be a simple action to get it to function, but I'm unsure of what I could do to get it to work.

I'd appreciate any help from the numerous Coleman Kerosene Lantern experts I know exist out there. :)

Thanks for the help!

  • Ladies and Gentlemen I give you Ray Romano!

  • @thespy1 Ha! WITHOUT Ray Romano's money. :\

  • DId you get it figured out? If not message me and i can help.

  • @04suzuka Thanks for the offer! I have not revisited it since the video. Pretty sad since there are a great number of comments here. I will be getting eh Coleman/white gas fuel soon enough.

I figured this vid could at least help someone in a similar situation. :)

  • A part of my soul dies every time you grind that lantern on the concrete.

  • @SansAuthoritas Haha. Sorry. I'm new to this old school lantern world. ;)

  • Hi,

I have not read all the comments but you should pour out the kerosene and add Coleman fuel. These lanterns were designed to run on white gas, not kerosene. (Kerosene requires a preheating step and would need a small modification to the lantern to provide a preheating cup.) What looks like leaking fuel is probably just the liquid kerosene that never volatilized , just wipe it off as much as possible -- it might smoke for a while but it won't go up in flames.

  • Coleman made the Model 200A for 31 years beginning in 1952.

In 1953 this model had a black globe base

and in 1961 it was maroon rather than red

but most years, as in 1960, it was red with an aluminum globe rest.

The lantern in the center has a replacement globe and fuel cap.

  • Well, dont even think about getting matches near it if it leaks like that with white gas. It will be scrap metal in seconds. Need to figure out whats leaking. Or if you just had the knob open when pumping and flooded the lantern. Be careful. Look at the instructions and follow them, or go online and there are many resources that explain its exact operation. :)

  • Look at the stamping in the bottom of the tank for the year. It runs on white gas/ coleman fuel and NOT Kerosene.
