Ochsner's 64 Slice Computed Tomography scan helps physicians diagnose and pinpoint heart attacks and strokes. Unlike an angiogram, the 64 slice CT Scan is non-invasive.

Ochsner Health System based out of New Orleans, Louisiana, has designed an exclusive YouTube channel to share videos highlighting our community and healthcare activities in the region. For more information, visit "http://www.ochsner.org"

  • Some

practitioners are still using EBCT, but the excitement in this field,

among both the academics and the companies that make the scanners, is

in MDCT. Today we are using a 64 slice CT scanner to provide non-

invasive angiograms, but the technology is already moving toward 256

    slice scanners and beyond.

  • IS Electron beam computed tomography (EBCT)

BETTER OR MORE ACCURATE? THAN THIS ONE?

My local doc says it is,but I think this machine is better, please help with advice!

  • EBCT is not superior to 64 slice CT (MDCT). There are strengths of

each technology. The EBCT is faster, important for taking

pictures of a moving object like the heart. But MDCT provides finer

details, important for looking at smaller objects, like

coronary arteries (2.5 to 4 mm in diameter.)

  • I meant slice!

  • Can this technology detect other problems with the heart? I am having concerns with an enlarged left ventricle and other possible problems. How likely is it that this would help me?

  • many thanx for clearing that up!

but cant you do things with old style angiography that you cant do with CT angiography?like for example put stents in?Here in the UK we do have the 64 slice machine but everyone is still saying"well you will still need the old style angiography anyway!plus you don't get the radiation dose!im really confused because I was hoping not to have the old dangerous test or are the docs in UK mentally like the flint stones?and not wanting to update?
