La Federación Internacional de Historia y Estadística del Fútbol (IFFHS) ha elegido a Gianluigi Buffon como mejor portero de los últimos 25 años.Gianluigi Buffon Masocco (Carrara, provincia de Massa y Carrara, Italia, 28 de enero de 1978), es un futbolista italiano. Se desempeña en la posición de guardameta y su actual equipo es la Juventus Football Club de la Serie A de Italia. Inició su carrera deportiva en el Parma F. C. luego de unirse a su equipo juvenil a la edad de 13 años, debutó profesionalmente en 1995 después de su ascenso al primer equipo. Tras permanecer durante seis temporadas en el equipo parmesano fue transferido a la Juventus F. C. y desde entonces ha obtenido cinco títulos a nivel nacional (dos Serie A, una Serie B y dos Supercopas de Italia).

Con la selección de fútbol de Italia ha participado en dos Eurocopas y en cuatro ediciones de la Copa Mundial de Fútbol, siendo su mejor resultado el campeonato obtenido en la Copa Mundial de Fútbol de 2006 luego de superar por 5-3 en tanda de penaltis a la selección de Francia en la final. En el año 2004, fue incluido en la lista de Futbolistas FIFA 100 elaborada por el ex-futbolista Pelé a petición de la FIFA.

Ha sido nombrado como el mejor portero del año en cuatro ocasiones por la Federación Internacional de Historia y Estadística de Fútbol. Así mismo ha obtenido diversos títulos individuales como el Premio Lev Yashin, el Balón de Plata, el premio al guardameta del año en la Serie A, entre otros. Actualmente ocupa la primera posición en los rankings del «Mejor Portero del Mundo del Cuarto de Siglo» y «Mejor Portero del Mundo de la 1ª Década del Siglo XXI» de la Federación Internacional de Historia y Estadística de Fútbol.

C. dopo aver riunito la squadra giovanile all'età di 13 anni, ha fatto il suo debutto professionale nel 1995 dopo la sua promozione alla prima squadra.
