A USAF Boeing CT-43 operating operating Flight 21 attempts an instrument approach into Dubrovnik Airport in heavy fog. The passengers are mainly government officials, including U.S. Government Secretaries. The pilots attempt the IFR non-precision NDB approach to Runway 12. The aircraft goes off course and hits mountains north of the airport, killing all 35 people onboard, including the United States Secretary of Commerce Ron Brown.

  • Back then GPS wasn't worldwide. And even today it is NOT idiot proof. NOR is it weather proof.

  • I bet had the President been on this flight, all inequities would have never existed!!!!

  • @nzecureuil2 Indeed... all these nuggets sitting there wearing there headsets polishing their junior wings.

  • not true....ndb's are the oldest

  • OHHH look at all these armchair experts.

  • @truenorthcorn are you leaving there ?

  • GPS are dangerious to rely on. I know people in both aviation and trucking. If you solely rely on GPS you could get yourself in big trouble.

  • @happyguy82 I think you misuderstood. gps are not idiot proof. you are trained not to trust them blindly. they are used in company of other Navigation systems so you can tell which one is lying. but not idiot proof by far.

  • @Title27GT The nicer one do. BUT you are trained as a pilot not to blindly trust them. more like a backup deal just in case. They should have had a IR system. works better than anything else.

  • @happyguy82 not accurate. a Gps has to have WAAS system to be able to do IFR approaches and a WAAS has to be assigned to an airport to be able to do that approach. Obviously not all airports have WAAS approaches. matter of a fact there are only 2 WAAS sattelites and one just went dead. lol. a vor approach can be better than a gps approach if the charts are correct. I have personally seen gps systems with more than 1 mile off where its supposed to be.
