There are two factors that might create consumer demand:
1) Electric motors are 4x more efficient than an internal combustion engine. An electric motor can go further on 33.5 kWh (an equivalent of one gallon of gas) than an ICE of equal horsepower using one gallon of gas.
2) Electricity is significantly cheaper than gasoline. Here in Washington, a gallon of gas costs $3.50 and 33.5 kWh costs $2.38.
Woot. Totally agree. I'm doing an entire project on Plug in Hybrid's. There's no reasonable reasons not to have them, only a price increase at first. That however, can be offset by increase in production, government rebates, and general consumer demand.
