I wish I'd taken up operatic singing in my younger years. Makes me wonder if I would have had a lower voice than Mr. Ramey's.

@arpeggio1358 awesome, brother. your devotion seriously fucking moves me. we can keep opera alive forever.
-
@DIEZAUBERFLOTEMENSCH I saw that production, too. I drove for 12 hours in the rain to get there. It was well worth it.

He has some of that throaty, nasal vocal resemblance of James Jones.

@EmilyGreene1984 He oves playing these roles. As he says in this interview, the bad guys have more fun.

@DIEZAUBERFLOTEMENSCH, I saw that production, too. He was magnificent. I had recently seen Ferruccio Furlanetto in the role live in San Diego. I've always thought of Furlanetto as the best actor in opera. to my surprise, I found Ramey's Boris even better acted.

@adamskyb BTW, Ramey says that when he talks, he always supports the tone the same way he does for singing. He also says that talking is something that can be damaging to the singing voice, if one doesn't speak properly.

I wonder if you talk at the bottom of your range you will make your low notes strong...although I know a guy with a low C who talks well over an octave above it, his low notes are weak though(he doesnt really sing). But Ramey talks low with a huge low range, Kurt Rydl also.

Don't forget Nicolai Ghiaurov!!!
Now that you mentioned James Earl Jones... I always thought Ramey would've done a great job as the Mufasa in The Lion King. Not to mention he looks like Mufasa in a human form. :-)
