Originally from Connecticut, Russell got his first drum set in '69--after being inspired by Woodstock. He's paid many dues playing in Rock n' Roll bands throughout the Northeast in Massachusetts, N.Y., Washington D.C., Virginia, Maryland, Connecticut and Florida. Having more than 30 years of playing experience, he's able to become one with the music and creates an original rhythmic sound and groove within a song.
He's played the West Coast L.A. scene for years, covering parts of Arizona and California. He's had the opportunity of taking lessons from Graham Lear (Santana's Drummer) and jammed with Tim Bogert (Vanilla Fudge), Chris Pinnick (Chicago), Chet McCracken (Doobie Bros), Aynsley Dunbar (Zappa, Journey) and with Eddie Van Halen.
Aynsley Dunbar (formerly with Zappa, Journey and Eric Burdon & The Animals) says that he plays with a "highly volatile attack on the skins and a most dynamically explosive groove ability".
Adaptable to any situation or style, he's made tremendous strides in Rock n' Roll, Blues, Funk, R&B, Jazz and Progressive Rock areas. He knows when to be subtle and when to explode with enthusiastic energy. The use of dynamics and a free feel are key elements to his style.
A seasoned veteran Drummer, Lyric Writer, Co-Arranger of songs and Lead & Back-Up Vocals... 3 Decades now.... still Rocking Out and Rolling On....
