The Westin Peachtree Plaza, formerly the world's tallest hotel, was built in 1975. The building was designed by famous Atlanta architect, John Portman (who also designed the Marriott Marquis, Peachtree Center, SunTrust Plaza, and also America's Mart.) These elevators do tend to sway during travel, but they are still very safe. The system was functional even after a tornado hit the building earlier this year (although the tornado did take out the scenic elevators). These elevators serve floors 5-9, 12-14, and 45-72, although the top floor is usually locked to encourage people to enter the SunDial restaurant through the scenic elevators. These elevators were modernized by Otis in the early 2000's and were some of the first to feature Otis's LCD floor indicators, introduced in conjunction with IBM in 2000.

  • This was still working? Wasn't it destroyed after the 2007 or 2008 tornado?

  • @Dan4328 The tornado only broke some windows.

  • How do the other people in the elevator normally react when they see you filming?

  • It depends - some people find it quite interesting, others stay away.

  • What was the song that was playing at the beggining of the video and when you got out.

  • Yes.

  • That building is not 72 stories!

  • I wonder why it stops at floors 12-14 ?

  • udont have to click the close button it does it on its own

  • what is that sound on 00:17

  • That's how elevators are made sometimes, probably because the elevators were made in 1975 or something.

  • is that what it was called?
