EverQuest was great. I have such fond memories. I was a complete noob to MMOrpgs and the internet itself, actually. So since it was my first it will always hold a special place. Also - all the people I met during those years. It was a great community.

EQ is still leading the way in MMO's with the new Merc's available. I checked them out just a few minutes ago after seeing the "bot party", and they are pretty awesome... No more waiting on a healer to join the group!

989 Studios game/online development branch spun off, initially calling itself RedEye Interactive and then soon after Verant Interactive. SOE acquired Verant in June 2000. But yes all of these departments were/are part of Sony.

Was a good game until the expansion that came after Kunark... was so long ago I can't remember what it was called, like Velious or something.

sibermonkey - that is intersesting. It's something I certainly didn't know. Regardless at some point the game seemed to lose it's soul for me. Maybe I just got bored with it.

"coupled with MMOs being dumbed down to childs play"
Quite right. I played EQ for years, then tried WoW for a month and couldn't do it. EQ takes teamwork to take down the big targets, teamwork unseen in any other game.

I believe its because there was no balance tbh. No one cared. It was just a strange game with tons to explore and discover.
Now that people are masters of MMOs coupled with MMOs being dumbed down to childs play, you can;t get anywhere near that experience anymore.
