@Aaotrom I wish you visit Croatia :) First of all, we catch our own Adriatic calamari which can't compare with this, i'm sorry. and then prepare it with home made olive oil. cmon man, must be better. coconut oil on calamari, that is so, rubish

Megh that is your opinion. I have cooked with Olive oil often and in my opinion it adds absolutely no flavor. Just a thicker oil. I think it might just be that you've raised on it, but I have used just about every type of oil from Canola to Coconut oil and the only differences I see are thickness and smoking point

@Aaotrom Well i must disagree with this. Olive oil has extra flavour and makes anything from sea better. I think most of the people would agree with this...
Bad thig its expensive. I am from Croatia, Dalmatia region at sea so i have home made olive oil, we always use it on sea food.

That so called purple side is the side with the membrane still attached. You are not supposed to eat that. When removed, the whole squid is white.

I really don't understand what the hype is with Olive oil. Its expensive as hell. Does not add any extra flavor to anything. its just slightly denser. Just because they tell you to cook with it on food network doesn't mean you need to spend 9 dollars on a quart of oil when you can buy a larger amount of Canola to get the job done. Only time I use Olive oil is when I make dressings for the simple fact that its thicker and holds the ingredients together better
