The 84 Key Theofil Mortier (Antwerp) Dance Organ or Orchestrion is more than capable of playing much the same music as the larger 101 Key Mortier Dance Organs - and this book of music demonstrates that quite well.
The Orchestrions were designed for the typical wood panelled late 1920s cafes of Belgium, and hence had a matching look, with no white or gold ornate decorative front like the travelling dance organs had.
This instrument dates from 1928 and has violin, jazz flute, unda maris and carillon pipes in the 23 note melody, with vox celeste, cello and flute 8 in the 18 note counter melody.

It is filmed here in the ownership of Peter Craig, and the book of music is 'Die Zirkusprinzessin', composed by Kalman and arranged for this organ by August Schollaert. August Schollaert usually worked with piano and full (orchestra) scores, to which he accurately kept when arranging for dance organ or fair organ scales.

  • Thank you for the video, great organ and also my favorite brand, I am as I sometimes call myself a mortier maniac:) greetings from the Netherlands.amellov65.

  • @amellov65 Very glad you like the video - my favourite organs are Mortiers, closely followed by other Belgian dance organs and then the Dutch street organs. Met vriendelijke groeten van Wales.

  • What a beautiful instrument! Great video, thanks for the post. Is this the instrument which was restored by Johnny Verbeeck a couple of years ago?

  • @javaan83 Hi - thanks for the comment. I don't *think* this organ has had recent restoration work done, but I could be wrong. I will try and find out for you. :)
