Eurovision 1976 - Finland

Fredi & Friends performing "Pump-Pump", the Finnish entry at the 1976 Eurovision Song Contest.

Another one of that year's performers (like Peter, Sue & Mark, Sandra Reemer or Anne karine Strom) with multiple appearances at the contest, Fredi (real name Matti Kalevi Siitonen) had already represented Finland in 1967, and would later return to the contest as the composer of their (deservedly) much-beloved 1979 entry. However, this tune is, um, nothing like those serious-minded songs. No, this is pure, un-filtered camp - and we love it all the more for it! :-D (all together now: "Let your hip go hippety pump pump...")

Well, in English, pumping people's bottoms gives a bit different meaning than bumping, which may be more closer to the original meaning...according to the chaste interpretation. Well, the ambiguity might be intentional, also in the Finnish version.

This has everything a great Eurovision entry should have; a grinning pianist, thigh slapping, thinly veiled references to sex, a male backing singer looking uncomfortable with the choreography, female backing singers giving it their all, a grand fat bloke, and jollity and bouncyness in abundance... an all round classic!

the girls have rather advanced jump suits for the 70s - i keep expecting to see plenty camel-toe but its never there...
