  • Tom's now made two World War II mini-series: "Band of Brothers" and "The Pacific".

Now I think it's time for him for him to come back to his other fascination with the space program. I'd love to see this same attention to detail go into something like the early days of Mercury. I wasn't impressed with "The Right Stuff" at all, and, from what I've read, neither were most of the Mercury astronauts.

  • @toddsmitts Well, they showed the questioning around Grissom, but no more really. Yeager is barely touched on in the movie, only referred to briefly. Actually, the book is an excellent read, better than the movie of course.

  • @Nautilus1972 The Right Stuff is nice if you wanna worship Chuck Yeager for 2 hours, but as a story of the Mercury program, it's terribly inaccurate. John Glenn, Deke Slayton, and Wally Schirra were all critical of the movie in books. Easily the worst part is the implication that Gus Grissom (the only Mercury astronaut not alive at the time it was made to defend himself) "screwed the pooch" on his Mercury flight. Tom Wolfe was critical of the movie as well.

  • Astronauts = huge hairy man balls.

  • @toddsmitts I loved The Right Stuff !

  • @toddsmitts yeah... i really like "the right stuff," but i would love to see tom hanks do a miniseries type of treatment for that era.
