Maiden with Paul Di'Anno, Dennis Stratton & Clive Burr.

Lyrics:

Out of the winter
Came a war horse of steel
I've never killed a woman before
But I know how it feels

I know you'd have gone insane
If you saw what I saw
So now I've got to look for
Sanctuary from the law

I met up with a 'slinger last night
To keep me alive
He spends all his money
On gambling and guns to survive

I know you'd have gone insane
If you saw what I saw
So now I've got to look for
Sanctuary from the law

So give me sanctuary from the law
And I'll be alright
Just give me sanctuary from the law
And love me tonight, tonight

I know you'd have gone insane
If you saw what I saw
So now I've got to look for
Sanctuary from the law

I can laugh at the wind
I can howl at the rain
Down in the canyon
Or out in the plain

I know you'd have gone insane
If you saw what I saw
So now I've got to look for
Sanctuary from the law

So give me sanctuary from the law
And I'll be alright
Just give me sanctuary from the law
And love me tonight, tonight

  • @Drag4401 I know what 1969 means ... i have like 80 albums released this glorious year...but since more or less 76-77 the jam extended tracks began to disappear for most bands except for some prog bands... in 1981 nobody was doin' long songs anymore...as prog rockers disappear in 1980...

But as you seems to say ...it was quite more open and more accepted to do longer songs in a live context... hopefully not as Zepellin or Iron Butterfly...exagerated 20and more minutes songs + eternal drumsolo

  • @BohemianConspiracy Let's go back to '69: both Zepp & Purple did debuts consisting of involved instrumentals many minutes long. Both also from England, did those demonstrations of virtuosity hurt their careers ? The meat of Maidens 'phantom, remember tomorrow, transylvania' are extended jams anyway, with dianno setting up. I just feel they missed glaring moments live to really knock ot outta the park.

  • @Drag4401 Yes ...but you can't ask to a young band who made heavy rock to do extended jams or solos for their 1st album in 1980 ... It's just suicidal...if they do that often...most young fans will never listen to them again...... this age was just not made for this...

  • @AlienProbe73 Amen, good 2 know i'm not the only 1, there's afew of us

  • As much as I love vintage IM, 3:30-4:00 reveals why Maiden never got as legendary as Zepp or Purple; if only they would've EXTENDED that brilliantly improvised interlude for say 5min !

  • Stratton and Harris defenetly aren't sleeping there...Di Anno really gave them a good test at 3:59

  • Wish Dianno had stayed much prefer him to Dickinson

  • Paul Di'Anno, kicking ass

  • @hiowaska

i agreee with you there. this earlier punk-ish sound is great, together with Pauls amazing voice.. <3 beautiful

  • imagine showing this to steve harris he'd be like i miss those days.
