When I first started experimenting with
Camtasia Studio for creating instructional videos, no one would help or share their settings. I had to hunt and peck and figure stuff out through trial and error. I am sharing info on the products I use, and where to get them. Also a vid on how I produce vids and specifically my post production procedure for saving vids for upload to YouTube.

I get so many inquiries on this, I thought it's time to just try and record what I do.
The file size of this video is 33.4MB for 13.4 minutes.

TIPS: I don't recommend recording the entire screen or a program in Full Screen mode. I had to do this for this video but normally I only set the area of the Application. The smaller the area you record the sharper the quality will be. Videos recorded using the entire screen end up looking pretty fuzzy and soft (like this one!).

While my video is demonstrating my specifice settings for upload to YouTube, I strongly recommend you watch the vids provided by Techsmith for Getting Started with their product here:

Products I use are:

Camtasia Studio 5.2 by Techsmith

SnagIt by Techsmith for screen captures

Samson C01U USB Condenser Mic purchased at:

Do not use any Camtasia Studio version 3 or 4, as the sound will screw up due to Adobe's faulty FlashPlayer 9.0.115 release. (Dec 3, 2007), which they have not removed or fixed!(As of March 8, 2008!)

Enjoy the video

  • do you have to have a cam on your computer?

  • No. The software records the monitor screen

  • You can set the size if that's what you are asking. You can record a Power Point Presentation if you have Power Point. You can import clips from outside of Camtasia. But mainly the programs is used to create tutorials of software programs that are on your computer screen. It is primarily for screen recording but you can also do a motion video of yourself narrating and put it in a corner of the video. You should visit TechSmith or google Camtasia Studio for more info

  • Hey i got a question!:) iv been working on a video with camtasia.

and when i try to produce it. it'll only produce 2.12mins out of the 8 :/ and thats annoying.

  • @runefigter5RS Contact Camtasia, I have never had problems like that. It may be your system resources, not enough scratch disk space, not enough ram, etc. What format are you trying to produce at? Try .mp4
