@Antifaith29 Dont worry, the people that think that are the people that arent soldiers. We know who is backing us up and we DO appreciate it. More then you know. Dont ever think everyone here in America is ignorant, cause I would fight for Australia any day!
@paintsvillehs I know about the diesle motors in the Australian Abrams, i used to be in the Australian army. Was 7 brigade- 6 bat ( rar) motorised infantry. Gunner standing out the top of a bushmaster. Love those girls ;)
@Antifaith29 But compared to what the US did it is a very small part of the war. However I am very thankful to our british allies for following us into that stupid war. As for the abrams we supplied the australians with the Diesel variant that has decent fuel economy. And the part about the Damage the Challenger took, the Abrams has the same armor, only we added the DU mesh. What america did with the abrams was take the best parts of the best tanks and make something spectacular.
@paintsvillehs Im not baggiung the Abrams either, it's a great bit of kit, it's only real problem is the logistic chain required to keep it operational. I know those gas turbines can use almost anything as fuel but they need a shitload of it compared to other tanks.
@paintsvillehs its first combat use came in March 2003 during the invasion of Iraq. 7th Armoured Brigade, part of 1st Armoured Division, was in action with 120 Challenger 2s around Basra. One in particular was hit directly by fourteen rocket propelled grenades from close range and a MILAN anti-tank missile , the crew survived to tell the story. I'm not sure what you mean by very small role considering the english helped set the whole thing up , they had SASehind the lines before both wars >>
@Antifaith29 It never really got to go one on one with Iraqi Tanks. The british had very small roles in both iraq wars, The Challenger is a very good tank, but is in no way better than the abrams.
What australia bought was the same thing the US would issue to a army unit, Minus the turbine engine which the Aussies didn't want. The Abrams is the best tank in the world. Period it has gone up against the best australia would ever face and proven vastly superior. That is why it was chosen.

@paintsvillehs and in Afghanistan , royal Marines have played a major part along with 2cdo ( australian) SAS and SASR.
I swear some people think america did it all alone. It's a little insulting, especialy to somebody that was there.

@paintsvillehs The Challanger saw plenty of combat in Iraq. Infact compared to the Abrams , it did much better.
