Tell me something, what happens to that peace and trade when the Chinese close the Straits of Malacca to everything but their shipping? Or the Iranians close the Straits of Hormuz? Doesn't it make sense to maintain positive security over such vital economic interests?

@JesseKantstopolis Actually yes, Switzerland IS reliant on the world for food. They can't feed themselves. Why are you surprised by this, they're a mountain-plateau nation. Not exactly known for being agricultural juggernauts. And of course they were fine during WWII - they kept trading with everyone. Supplied the Nazis with some very fine ball bearings and specialty chemical products, if memory serves correctly.
