In the summer of 2001, the Southern Pacific Daylight #4449 pulled a day-long excursion train from Portland, OR to Wishram, WA along the Columbia River Gorge and back. Here are some quick shots I took of the train during that day excursion. I apologize for the low-quality of the shots, but this is the only format in which I can still access this old footage and upload it here. But, regardless, enjoy the shots of the steaming beauty painted in her World War II all black "War Baby" paint scheme.

@fulltimlocoal Some of the other differances were the GS-6 was built with a single headlight, roller bearings and no side valences and some GS-6 engines went to the WESTERN PACIFIC not the Northern Pacific.

Yeah there are some big differences between the GS-4 and GS-6. The GS-6's (some of witch went to the Northern Pacific) had 73" drivers as opposed to the 80" on the GS-4's and the they had a lower boiler pressure 260lbs vs. 300lbs. They also never had the side skirting they just had the skyline casing. Nice video.

You might want to check your facts. SP 4449 is a GS-4, she was part of a order for 28 locomotives in April and May 1941. Almost six months before the U.S.A. entry into WW2. The GS-6 class are the "War Baby's". Nice Video BTW.

hey just like sp 4449's sister the 4460, too bad 4460 still doesn't operate but her legacy lived on as 4449 was dressed in her colors.
