Addiction disorder is a deadly disease. Tragically, the onset is caused by drug (most pop. is alcohol) use - and overwhelmingly by young people .. people just beginning to break away from their parents and so, often coming back for help when the disease has complete hold of them. Blame doesn't help. What passes for education doesn't help (it just threatens w/out informing) and is aimed at kids. Parents and children need to be educated together - this is a DISEASE. My beautiful son is also dead.

Kids are gonna do what they want to do, whether or not they know the dangers. Noone forced you're child to get high, it was something they wanted to do. & if they really wanted it that bad they'd find any way to do it. No one can explain why one kid studies & the other parties.

You say he was "murdered". I believe the same is true for my son, who died 3 weeks ago (the pathology/toxicology reports are not in yet) of a supposed heroin and perhaps ecstasy o.d. I believe he was killed. Can you tell me more? By the way, my son was also an amazing baseball player! He was pitcher/3rd baseman/hitter extraordinaire. We miss him so much...he was only 21.

Interestingly enough, my son, who died at 21 from a supposed heroin/ecstasy overdose, used to sit and watch Requiem, Trainspotting, Spun, Rush, Party Animal and other "drug" movies with his drug buddies. They got off on it. Go figure. I miss my son so much....I lost my heart. God bless you, Zack's family.

(part 2 of 2) However, our school offers drug awareness classes and classes on making choices, and we as parents also explain the dangers of drugs and the importance of choices and are open to the kids coming to us if they have any problems at all. Ultimately, the kids take what info they want, but are, in the end, responsible for making the right choices. I am sorry for your loss, I feel your pain.

(part 1 of 2) I feel for this family. What a beautiful young man. I write because my own 17 year old son passed away, 3 weeks ago today, on March 18, 2009 from a heroin overdose. I found him dead. We have lost 3 students in our high school within the past 6 months, 2 from methadone and 1 from heroin.
