A World War One veteran returns to Paschendale and talks about his war experiences; Harry Patch, 109 years old, returns to Flanders overlooking Paschendale where he fought aged 19, he describes the mud at Langemarck, war medals, photograph of the battlefield, Harry gives his thoughts of the loss of life, church at Langermarck destroyed by British troops, the church shown rebuilt, aerial photography of German fortifications, concrete pillboxes, German war cemetery, laying of wreath at a German memorial, a veteran remembers the experience of being dug out of the mud after being shelled, funeral of a soldier whose body was recently found, identified and re-buried with full honours, members of two royal families walk the Menin Road, gratitude shown to the men who have given their lives.   • the word " legend" is over used these days... but never has a man deserved the title more. he must have seen unspeakable horrors, including seeing his friends killed right beside him. he deserves every medal and recogniton available. Harry Patch, i salute you, last tommy.....

  • this is truely amazing. these are the last voices to tell the story only 3 left in the uk..i wish i could meet them and shake there hands and say thank you very much for what they did for us..they dont have long left now and i will be so sad when they are gone and then it will be lost in history for ever...god bless them all.. and god bless the last tommy harry patch
