  • What about safety? I love driving. I've always wanted to go out on the road for weeks at a time. I'm about to graduate with my associates degree. But I really don't fancy sitting behind a desk for the next 10 years paying off these student loans. I'd really like to get into trucking. My family is totally against it. They say truckers are killed all the time by psychopaths on the road with hammers. I'm sure dangerous stuff happens, but I'm also pretty sure my mom is exaggerating a little.

  • @anzwertree Thanks for the comment, appreciate it! Safety? although this is somewhat cliche'd, it's what an individual makes of it when it comes to driving. There will be external pressure though to put safety aside, so be dilligent, it pays off in the long run (as a new driver I'd look for a company with a good safety record before high pay (they usually go hand in hand anyway)

As far as the other dangers, a lot depends on where you are operating. (continued next post)

  • @anzwertree As far as other dangers though, a lot depends on what the job is, and where you operate. Yes, there is danger, but there are also far more dangerous careers that people don't think twice about. Park in safe areas if sleeping in the truck, use locks and alarms, and protect yourself as well as you can. I won't lie and tell you it's all safe, but the media can sensationalize the negative when it happens, and you never hear about the good stuff at all.

  • You bet it would! It's something else to think about if you were getting into trucking. There are a few things that can be done, but there are pro's and cons. In summer, If power was available (electrical) where you were parked, a small plug in A/C would be great. If there is no power, the truck itself has a really good A/C system, but the drawback to that is the truck has to be kept running, as the system works off of the motor. This uses a lot more fuel +increases carbon emmissions.
