If the old rules were in place at these games shannon would have won gold...crazy how stupid rules can ruin gymnastics...sad that its still happening today

@12bmills I agree with you and I rebel against the current definition. today all you hear about is the idea that "this is a sport of deductions" and this sport is more than quantitative. this stuff used to be fun to watch, and even shushunova had a very particular brand of grace that is missing today. Everything is too streamlined today, Khorkhina was definitely a throwback.

@ViardotVSGrisi I think the definition of perfection has evolved over the years. In Nadia's time, I think if the whole routine had perfect execution and grace, the judges would score it a 10 even with a hop. Now, it's every small detail in a routine.

this may be a controversial statement, but Shannon's vaulting in 92, 93 and 94 are the types of vaults that were missing in Silivas' incredible arsenal of skills. Had Daniela executed THIS vault in Seoul, there is NOTHING that the russian judges, Nelli Kim, or the atomic bomb could have done to keep her off the middle podium. I mean, Kim would have stood up and awared the medal to her right then and there. These vaults are really a work of art.

@12bmills i always think that the judging always accounted for certain "the human body settles as it meets the ground-its not a robot" movement. If you look at the first comaneci bars 10, she has a tiny hop forward in the landing. I always thought the perfect landings meant that the athlete was in perfect complete control of the skill within the arch of movement, not that they're a block of concrete that lands standing up (this is what the new code wants these girls to be. its a disgrace)

Shannon took over all silver for the all around competition

Shannon picked up a 9.975 for the 1st vault a 9.980 would of put her in 1st place!!! The first vault should of picked up at least 9.990 the vault was high & clean with excellent body shape, toes pointed, legs together, arms extended & landed perfectly! 2nd vault not as good, she had a little step back which she disguised well but legs came apart slightly in mid flight! She was robbed of gold here! Gutsu vaults were terrible.
-
@leeny11 She placed a controversial second to Tatiana Gutsu of the Unified Team (who in fact didn't qualify for the all around, and replace "injured" teammate Roza Galieva).
-
what place did she get in this competition?
-
Impresionante, los 2 saltos son de 10.
Ah, it sucks that she didn't win these games.

There is no doubt in my mind the AA was rigged to an extent. Gutsu didn't make it to finals ... then got put in ... and then wins? Kind of like in 1985 when Shush and Omelianchik didn't qualify to AA but replaced their two teammates that rightfully made it and then won.
Fixed or not, Shannon was the clear winner at these Olympics.
