  • @ChemistDrummer Iodine, Bromine, heat, you can use what you want.

    You´d never isolate the Grignard Reagent as it is very moisture sensitive. Isolating it would mean losing a big party of your yield. And the Grignard is just an intermediate you use straight away for the next reaction, so isolating it would mean unnecessary work.

  • @ChemistDrummer Sorry, dumb question the second one, forget the part about isolation :P

  • When I was doing that experiment we used some iodine as an activator, is there much difference? Also why don't we isolate the grignard reagent?
