Joe's POV:
The next day went by so slowly at school. But I knew that it would all be worth it once Rory and I were at the dance together. In media class, our teacher told us that we would be showing our films we made at the dance. Mine and Rory's video wasnt great, but it was alright. So, I guess it wouldn't be too embarrassing.
Once school was over, I rushed home and sat on my bed trying to think of something amazing that I could do for her. Then it hit me! I had the best idea ever! It was going to win her heart for sure... at least I hoped that it would...
Rory's POV:
I got dressed and did my hair and makeup and then I waited anxiously on Joe to get there. He was ten minutes late... that wasn't like Joe. Just when I was starting to doubt him, I heard a knock on the door. I heard my dad let him in, and then I walked down the stairs. It was like a scene out of a cheesy teen romance movie... Joe was staring at me and I was slowly walking down the stairs, my eyes never leaving his. When I got to the bottom of the staircase, Joe took my hand.
"You look beautiful." He smiled.
Every time he said that to me my heart always turned over in my chest.
"Are you ready to go?" He asked.
I nodded, and then I hugged my dad goodbye. I hoped that this would be the night.
We got to the dance and everyone turned to watch us walk in. It was like they were all waiting for that moment too... it was like they knew about me and Joe. I noticed that Endless Love by Diana Ross was playing. I loved that song.
"Rory, will you dance with me?" He said nervously.
I nodded, and then he led me out on the floor. I leaned my head on his chest and he rested his chin on my shoulder. We were so close I could hear his heartbeat. It was frantic, beating quickly and erratically, and then it slowed to a soft beat, a soothing thump-thump-thump in his chest.
The song was over too quickly. We didn't pull away, even after the song switched to one of those upbeat rap songs they always play at dances. Our media teacher came over the microphone and that is when we finally had to pull away. We both looked toward the stage and waited for him to speak.
"Okay guys, we have a few short films for you." He said. "So, let's start the show!"
Mine and Joes video was definitely not the best one. They played all of the amazing videos, and I had to admit that I was a little anxious for everyone to see ours. I just hoped no one would laugh.
"This last video is especially special to me." The teacher said. "When I watched it, it really evoked an emotion in me, so I hope it has the same effect on you."
He liked our video that much?
The screen started out black, and then changed to a picture of me and Joe. Wait...that wasn't right. That wasn't how our video started. What was going on? Scenes of me and Joe from when we were little played across the big screen. It outlined the time from when we were babies to the present. Then, it cut to a scene of me and Joe throwing flour and eggs on each other in the kitchen. We were laughing and giggling, we looked so happy. Next, a scene of me drawing and him sitting by me on my front porch. Then, a scene of me and Joe dancing in his back yard at the barbeque came up. I looked closely at Joe's face... he was crying... he looked heartbroken. The video went black and then Joe was on the screen alone. He was wearing the same outfit he was tonight, so he must have just shot the video before he picked me up... that explains why he was late.
Joe was on screen. He adjusted the camera, and then he sat down on his bed.
"Rory." He said. "You are probably standing right beside me right now, right?"
I turned to look at him and he looked nervous. He shot me a sideways grin, and then he pointed back to the screen.
"So, I was probably too chicken to hold your hand." He laughed on screen. "Hold her hand you idiot!"
Then, I felt Joe slip his hand into mine.
"Rory, I don't know if you understood the video or not. But what it means is...what it means is..." On- screen Joe said.
I squeezed Joe's hang tighter and then waited for the video to continue.
He continued. "I could try and quote all the romance movies in the world, but they wouldn't do. You see, those words couldn't even match up to how I feel about you. So, all I can think to say is..." He paused. What was he going to say? "I love you." Then he smiled and laughed. "I really do love you."
He stared at the camera, and I could feel the love and the pain in his eyes. He was looking right at me, I could feel it. Then, the screen shot to black and everyone in the dance looked towards me and Joe.
