After playing Nottingham's Hit The Deck Festival, Underoath hit London to play at Camden's Koko, so we did the honourable thing and caught up with front man Spencer Chamberlain to find out how he felt about Aaron Gillespie leaving the band, their new album 'Ø (Disambiguation)' and how he really feels about being labelled a Christian Band. Check it out...

  • This interview is filled with bitterness towards Gillespie and an agnostic view of existence. You can tell that Spencer is unsure of his own beliefs and I'm glad he finally cleared the air whether or not they are a "Christian Band." This really answers a lot of questions as to why Gillespie is no longer with Underoath and I applaud him for walking away. That being said, while UO still makes great music, it's not the same. Aaron's voice cannot be replaced in their music.

  • That is the tiniest fucking microphone I've ever seen...

  • 13:20 wow you are incredibly weak. Dont even think about saying youre following God if you just are apathetic and lazy about it to the point you "live your life however you want" That's a really STUPID way to live, and you stand for nothing because you are too weak and feeble to stand for something

  • Spencer you little flake

  • @23boxcar182 It's because he's a weak crack addict

  • @aaronc777 I agree 100%. I will be the first to say the Spencer is an incredible vocalist, especially live. But all this crap about Aaron being bad for the band because of "pressure to write clean vocals" is garbage. If they didn't like the way he did things, that's fine, he left. But all this crap about people not getting along doesn't even matter - he left, their sound changed, and what appealed to many people was gone. They have to be comfortable with themselves if they want their fans to be.

  • i hate how he says hes a Christian but then says "if there is a god" multiple times...

  • Wow I am so turned off by his comments. Aaron was by far the most talented person in the band. Him and Spencer playing off of each other is what made them so amazing and different. Spencer really comes off like a jerkoff.

  • Remember when you lost a best friend even though you went through about everything together wether it was you that cut the ties or not? It's the same thing here. Over glorifying them to not understand what they're going through is ridiculous. They're people like you and me and we lose some friends and gain new ones. What DID work no longer works, I'm sure we've all gone through this experience.

  • i just don't understand why he bashes aaron a little? i get that he wants to write stuff different than gillespie but watching old videos and going to shows multiple times.. they had an uncanny chemistry in both on-stage skills as well as writing music. they worked so well together and you could tell they were great friends.. i just wonder what happened? ....

  • @xsavagedrummerx he's not smashing god? why is everyone saying that? faith is based off of trust...you don't really need to trust if you just say 'oh yeah god for sure exists 100%' that's not how faith works. lol.

  • Wow.... it's funny how many people are standing up for spencer..... he pretty much completely smashed God and aaron in this interview when he was the LAST ORIGINAL MEMBER in the band!!!! most of you are probably to young to know underoaths real sound and what they used to stand for! what ever..... this is lame......
