...understanding Hauer. Just search for things like: "Vom Wesen des musikalischen" (" from the 'essence' of musicality"), "Vom Melos zur Pauke" ("From the Melos to the timpani"). There you will learn more. A good Hauer-research I can recommend is from Ricarda Rätz: "Josef Matthias Hauer, Werk, Theorie etc." (also about the conflict with Schönberg) Hope i could help you. Have nice days and ask me something if you haven't understood my broken language.

May i interpret the word "treaties" wrong because my english is not that wide, but ih you mean some writings of Hauer where his technique and philosophy is explained, there are plenty, but i know them only in german language. I don't know if they were translated. All in all, it is true to say that many specific points in his theory are not exactly understandable, but there were enough researches about remaining questions that may solve problems in...

  • @TheWelleszCompany Yes it is only an alternative but I disagree with you, in that I find the outcome of his music better than Schoenberg's and I love Schoenberg's music. But it is only a subjective opinion and was not meant to be anything else.

  • Hauer was not an academic, his composition skills are self taught and thus not widely written about.

He did write at least one treatise, you will have to look for it yourself though

  • Did Josef Matthias Hauer write any treatises on his 12 tone tecnhique, because his is way better than Schoenberg's?
