Saffron comes from a particular type of crocus flower. The saffron itself is the three stigmas of that flower, which must be picked by hand and then dried. Here we demonstrate how saffron must be carefully picked from each crocus in Piedmont Italy.

  • Translated to English: Saffron, one of the major agricultural products of Castilla-La Mancha, comes from a small purple flower. To obtain one kilo of saffron you must hand-pick nearly 85,000 flowers. My note: Saffron is very neat.

  • El azafrán, uno de los importantes productos agrícolas de Castilla-La Mancha, viene de una pequeña flor de color lila. Para obtener un kilo de azafrán hay que recoger a mano los estigmas de casi 85.000 flores.

  • Can you grow saffron in a green house? Is the crocus a hard plant to grow?

  • My saffron flower bulbs have sprouted and are dry to the touch. I kept them stored in a bag. They have all sprouted and long shoots have come out of the bulbs. Are these still viable or alive to plant right now?
