  • Saw strawbs in oxford in 73 - and again 2months ago in coxs yard - still do it 4 me ! big time .

  • Yep - I did not see them live when they (and me) were younger, but I have seen them twice now - I've loved their music for a long time.

  • where did u see them ? 100 per cent committed as always .

  • The first time was probably three or four years ago (I think that they had just got back to touring together) at the Winchester in Cleveland - and of course this time in Kent, Ohio; guess I'm fortunate since I see that John Hawken just retired from the band.

  • Saw them on Feb 17th 1973 at Portsmouth as a wide-eyed 16 year old. This song was part of the finale and is imprinted on my memory forever. Thanks very much for posting this.

  • Man let me know when the Strawbs play the states. I need to see them. One of my favorite bands of all time.

  • Dave Lambert is such an under-rated lead guitarist. He is exceptional. He has come up with such memorable riffs, leads and is so consistent in the quality of his playing.

I agree with one poster, the album's studio version is far more grandiose -- and soooo good.

  • One of my all time favorite Strawbs songs!!!!!

  • ..and last night, at the Boom Boom Club in Sutton, they were excellent again.

  • Saw the strawbs at Bedworth civic hall last year 2009, still excellent at what they do, Dave Cousins is such a friendly bloke spoke to us for agws after the gig well done Dave, top bloke.

  • The Strawbs ,UFO,Status Quo, Atomic Rooster,Ten Years After,Gong,Clearlight,(70's)Pink Floyd, and Hawkwind are some of the bands i listened to(thanks to my brother,he loved these bands). This was real music with great lyrics.I still love these bands.I seen the Strawbs twice. These days the music sucks,i can't think of one new band thats any good.

  • @coua78 too true man. they were young at the time, but man did they steal stuff left and right.

  • Saw them a bunch of times starting in 1973. I heard this when Lambert still had the pipes to sing like he did on the LP. Yeah, still have all my Strawbs vinyl through Deadlines.

  • metallica are a bunch of posers and copy not only this song, a lot of other NWOBHM songs, of unknown metal bands, thats why most people don't realize that

  • My first ever prog band and still one of my favourites.

Down by the Sea is simply a stunning song with a magnificent riff (ANYONE would rip this off if they could!) , though the studio version is far more grandiose than any live version could be. However, Dave Lambert's final solo is brilliant.
