Once a month, the Recumbent Riders of Sacramento get together for a "moonlight ride", which gives everyone a chance to test their lighting systems while exploring the seldom experienced charms of carving through empty bike path
surrounded by complete darkness. If you've never tried it, you have no idea what you're missing. Oh, and watch for the deer that runs across the road at 2:20!

  • Watching this, and seeing that deer, reminded me of that long walk I had to make in the dark along the American River bike path all those years ago.

  • That deer is probably a descendant of the deer that watched you take your walk all those years ago :)

  • super cool!!

  • Yep, usually I find drivers give you a wider berth when you're on a recumbent, but Id have no idea how theyd react to a velomobile. Id suggest heading over to the velomobile forum at bent rider online and see what they think.

  • This will be my first recumbent.

    I've built up a number of new Catrikes and ridden them to a limited degree.

    I will be riding the Quest every free moment I get. My other bikes will be somewhat neglected....(-;

    I just want to be visible to the motoring masses and not get some bozo pulling out in front of me.

    I've been told that recumbents by their very nature attract more attention and thus in a sense are safer than DF bikes.

    What are your thoughts on this?

  • Good vid!

  • The Quest will be there just in time for the cold weather! And you'll be so fast in there you won't have to worry about drag from a flag :)

  • Mew, I like that nick name.....(-;

    My kid picked out my youtube name....LOL

    I think I've mentioned it to you before that I'm getting a Quest Velomobile. Delivery date this coming October. It's a bright yellow full body recumbent trike. I'm not worried about night rides as I will be the brightest thing on the roads. My thoughts are for the day time. That's why I was asking about flags. It's a point and shoot, damn the torpedoes mentality among the motoring public, at least on the east coast.

  • Hey Mew!

    Drag from the flags isn't a problem unless you're really going for speed, in which case it does have an effect with these larger sized flags. If you're looking for added safety plus low drag, many smaller flags are available.

  • Great Video!

    I Love riding at night.

    You guys look well lit.

    How much drag do you think you get from your flags?
