This version aims to give a truer representation of Fauré's marked speed of 78 bpm than most others on YouTube at the time of upload, which average 60 bpm. Recorded by Corinne Orde (voice and piano) in November 2010. This video is part of a longer commentary on speeds in Fauré's songs on http://www.deplist.co.uk/cd/faureclairdeluna.html

  • Many thanks for your nice comments, Paul. And yes, there are several Watteau paintings in there, as well as some Fragonard, Boucher, Lancret, etc. One of the lines of Verlaine's poem originally said "Au calme clair de lune de Watteau". He crossed out the "de Watteau" and replaced it with "triste et beau".

  • very beautiful!! I really like it :)

  • I think 78 works well. Corinne, you have a beautiful voice, I am so glad you chose to upload this song and have been looking forward to it. The voice and piano balance in this excellent recording is always hard to get right, and you have. Nice video, I think I spotted a Wattaeu and possibly a Fragonard?
