  • What version of RISC OS is this? What hardware is it running on? (And/or, is it emulated?)

    Either way, it looks great.

  • This version is RISC OS Adjust, this Virtual RISC PC Adjust SA

The Folder, HardDisc4, and montor icons are from the Tango Project Icon set, the apps folder icon is a port from OS X, whcih was in turn used from a RISC OS OS X theme.

Though the logo replacing the Cog/Acorn at the side of the screen is my own.

  • It looks so cool. >_> Is there a live CD for it?

  • There are emulators which run under windows, linux, and OS X, but you have to source the ROMs your self.

  • ibible LMAO :D

  • Just did that! Interesting! I guess one would be able to make one's own laptop using a BB - my nephew is a programmer who loves Linux ...

I'll better talk about this when we meet in Thailand in a few weeks time!

  • The beagleboard is a cheap tiny little motherboard/computer with a decent ARM CPU (just like Acorn computers used, but way faster) and 256mb of RAM, an SD card slot for storage, a mini-USB port (that can be hooked up to a hub for multiple normal USB ports), and can have a 1280x1024 display hooked up to it. It barely uses any power, doesn't need a fan because it runs so cool, but it does need to be put into a case and have the appropriate cables provided by the user. Just Google "Beagleboard" :)

  • What's a Beagleboard?!

    Sounds interesting!

  • Oh RISC OS is a fantastic operating system, but personally I'm going to buy a Beagleboard based computer to run the open source version of RISC OS 5 :) Not much more expensive than buying VirtualAcorn, and it'll be a whole actual computer, not just an emulated machine!

  • I guess the volumes are lower? Still cheaper than what I paid for the original version of VirtualAcorn for Me 2000 -

    and much better!

Haven't got printing sorted (haven't tried very hard), but got the latest version ArtWorks up and running, plus Publisher Plus!!!

Haven't spent much time on it yet, but love the way you can have two windows open to the same Publisher, or Ovation Pro, text file, at different magnifications, which updates as you go -

never seen that with any Win, or OS X appl.!

  • Personally I find it kind of crappy that OS X users are expected to pay so much more for VirtualAcorn...

  • I mix OS X on my iMac with RiscOS and it works very well! VirtualAcorn is nowadays cheaper than ever before and I think it works better on OS X than it did on my Dell under Windows!

  • Risc OS is beautiful. Even though I am on OSX now, I have fond memories of this. I was at Uni in the early 90's when you could still handwrite assignments, but I used an Archimedes (Ovation App) to write me MA thesis. I went from this, to an old mac (system 6) and then to OSX. I have never defiled myself with windoze.
