the kiss

The Kiss is an award winning set of five 60 second video pieces. The initial idea for the piece came from a series of dreams and nightmares the artists had experienced. Inspired by surrealist philosophy and art: control, reason or moral narrative are ignored to allow the work to develop in both the imagination of its creators and of its audience, permitting an absence of conscious moral or aesthetic self censorship. The Kiss explores age old themes such as love, pain, death and rebirth, also bringing to mind contemporary issues such political prisoners (Guantanamo Bay) and HIV. The unconventional process in which the artists Denise Callender, Neil Hunt and Kye Wilson made the The Kiss was particularly interesting; as
they had a band ethic approach to their collaboration, where each artist
had an equal dialogue at all stages projects creation.
