@JIZZZification Lightning heats the air around it to over 43,000 degrees F. The rapid heating of the air causes it to expand and then contract rapidly. The pulses generate sound waves, resulting in thunder.

These images are incredibly insightful. Lightning branching out like that and searching for ground looks amazing, despite some of it being played back in windows [media player].

@CoolLikeThManno lightning super heats the air around you from friction against the air molecules to roughly 3x that than the surface of the sun.
also, lightning is and electrical build-up. too much into a human and it stops the heart (thats why we have electrical chairs)
lightning isnt light. the electrons are heated so much that they produce light (just like phosphorus and neon)
