My friend and I went to volunteer in an orphanage in the capital of Moldova (former USSR). The children lacked individual attention as they only had 3 carers per 15 children who spent most of the time doing manual work.

All the children wanted was for us to hug, smile, hold their hands and play with them.

They were all precious in their own unique way and we could not believe that there is nobody to adopt these beautiful children with fantastic personalities.

I would encourage people to adopt children from this little known third world country...

  • how old were you when you went?

    do they accept minors?

  • I was 18 the first time I went. You can go if you are under 17 but you need a guardian. Just search real gap in to google and all the info is there :)

  • Can I get some info on this orphanage? What is it called? I would like to volunteer there for a couple of months but I'm not sure how to get started. Any help is appreciated!

  • Thats wonderful! Do you have facebook? Whats your name? I could add you and could answer any questions. The ophanage is in Chisinau the capital of Moldova and there are around 100 children from ages 0-6. There are 11 groups 2 of which are disabled and 1 of which is the HIV group which contains a gorgeous little girl called Adrianna who features a few times in the video. I went with a company called Real Gap. Just search Real Gap on the interent and go to their site and click on 'Moldova'.

  • Do you think a person could go their and work almost fulltime? OR is always for just a short time? What would be the negative issues that you think I would run into in staying fulltime? Do they have rooms specifically for helpers?

  • Did you hear anything about these children being able to be adopted while there?

  • I love it. Beautiful videos :)

  • I am an American with a small business in Moldova .

I am seeking either investors or just someone that cares about the life of Moldovan people to make cash donations to my small company so I can start a company that can hire young Moldovan people so thy don't become traffic in the global sex trade..

I want to start a business in Moldova producing micro wave oven dinners and processing fruit to make natural juice products to sell in the U.S.

This will make jobs in Moldova and in the U.S .

  • what a lovely video !! i have been interested in going to moldova to volunteer in an orphanage for a while now. My dad went with a group from Blythswood but they did many different things but i would rather work in the orphanage. I was just wondering if you know of any groups that accept under 16s without an adult and also do you know if you can stay somewhere else from what they would provide but still do the volunteering work ??? thanks

  • I am planning a trip to Moldova sometime next year and also hope to stop in Romania to volunteer. Any first hand information would be really helpful!!

  • These children are so precious. God Bless them! How did you find out about volunteering there? What was he process?

  • TrueBlue,

I just watched this over again, and at 1:31 there is a still that could have been a clone of my son (from a Chisinau orphanage 9 years ago). My sons birth mother was only 16 when she had my son, so I wonder if this little guy could be a sibling... What orphanage were you at? I wonder if there would be anyway to find out???

We adopted my daughter from Russia and at that point we were told that she was the 4th child in the system.

    Thanks!

  • Your video brought back so many memories for me. Nine years ago, my life truly began, when my husband and I adopted an amazing baby boy from Chisinau. I will be forever grateful to this little country. Thanks for sharing your experience.
