TURN OFF YOUR SOUND and read:

All JX-3P owners are encouraged to share their patches! You can use your PC instead of a tape deck for the "Tape Memory" features.

Be sure you save your own patches before loading mine because they will erase whatever's currently in your patch memory!

For this to work, your computer's sound output must be very nearly distortion-free, and at just the right volume. It doesn't work on my Thinkpad because the sound card has clearly-audible crossover distortion. I bet it didn't work on a cheap tape deck, either!

INSTRUCTIONS:
1) Connect your PC's audio-out to the JX-3P's "Tape Memory: Load" plug
2) Press the "Tape Memory" button
3) Play the video with your sound all the way up.
4) Press "16" when I tell you!

Consult your manual for detailed Tape Memory instructions. You can download the manual from Roland's site I think. Just don't wipe your own patches, and don't come whining to my if you do :P

Enjoy!

EDIT: I have now tested the video, and it worked.

  • Hi , k well cant u upload them somewhere? that would be easier ..

For now im still waiting for my pg200 so i can fine tune em And then ill upload some.

  • Where should I post them? Maybe the Wikimedia Commons would take them, or something like that?

  • Don't forget about the extra bank.

    1. Press Tape Load

    2. Hold 5 and press Tape Load

    3. ????

    4. 16 extra user patches!

Not all JX-3P's have this feature.

  • Yeah, I didn't know about that when I made this vid :) I've never used the extra bank.

  • Does anyone have the original factory presets for the JX3P? I can't find an MP3 anywhere online. Could you please post the original presets as well?

  • gracias

  • This worked perfectly the first time. Thank you!

  • How do I save my patches to a file? I don't have a tape unit... Thanks

  • Good idea!!! I can't wait until tommorow, because I get a JX3P!!! Until now I was only working with modern keyboards or Bontempi. I'm learning lots of things tonite. When I've got my first patches ready, I'll post them too, YIAAAAUUW!!!

  • Thanks - C4 Tensnake "Dollarbill (remix)? C12 sounds like PWM - I didn't know 3P could do that! With a little Square LFO and some tweaks I got Dam Funk "Mirrors" I've learn't a lot more about my 3P from your patches - thanks!

  • hi - how can i do the back up? thanks

  • Worked GREAT! First try, no problems.

Patch D6 is probably my favourite... Luscious, evolving strings! D5 seems like a highly modified pulsar. D2/12 are so thick in the bass clef. C-11 = classic! C-16 chuckle chuclke.... Nice job! I'll do the same too if you can tell me how you recorded them on to youtube... I mean edit wise. THANKS!

  • That has got to be the WEIREDEST method of sharing patches I've ever encountered on the 'net. The concept behind is not new: some TV shows back in the eighties did the same thing.

  • Hi, thank you for uploading. Interesting sounds.

I would like to contribute - the sounds, that were in memory, when i I bought JX3P, some of them edited.

    Available here *filesave.me/file/8708/JX3P-patches2-wav.html*

With your patches I was successful on Thinkpad, but after some work :

    - download audio from Youtube.

    - in audio editor I deleted one of stereo channel, and made file as mono

    - with equalizer I limited basses to minimum

Shall post your edited file as well?
