GOVERNMENTS should be the 1 who should start taking the 1st step to work out with all the manufacturers for solutions to have the waste properly recycled. No parties should just made MONEY and forget about the waste that they invented/created in the 1st place. Typical GOVERNMENTS always pushes all their waste to the poor at a very low cost, making them even poorer to do the jobs.
Everyone has to know the facts that it is the US that is dumping the E-waste into these developing countries. If we dont dump, we dont need greenpeace or watchdog go out taking videotapes showing people. Why dont we process everything inside the United States? And then we wont have these kinds of problems. Am I right?
Freespeachrulez most of the problem is new applications. Such as gaming and media. To play a good online game you need the best motherboard you can get and the strongest graphics card. So there is where alot of the ewaste is generated. I know this because I am also guilty of that way of thinking. I have three nice computers and they are not fast enough any more.
Smegbron, you are exactly right. Most kids don't NEED all that powerful a computer to do classroom work. They don't need a dial up modem for sure. They may need ethernet to connect to the server. I took two old computers from a gamer club and turned them into great home computers. When one got a bad processor and my stepson took them apart for fun I was able to combine parts to make one good computer. But I had to get a Windows XP for OS. These computers were over ten years old.
Why the hell do schools need loads of new shiny computers when all they are used for is for typing word documents!
Ok if they need new ones for a high-end task - ok buy new, but otherwise buy secondhand, especially seeing as most data is not reliant on the internal HDD but is stored on a central server. Run a free OS which is not hard on resources such as edubuntu.
