@lubinkous Incidentally, I guarantee that you're from an age group who didn't know this song other than via the cover by 'The Damned'. Your perception is prejudiced. Certainly there are songs that are outdone by their covers... but this certainly isn't one of them!

@lubinkous Bollocks to that! Have you heard the original? Bear in mind that he only has the taped orchestration & is belting it out over something he can barely hear.
If you're making assertions over the technology available & the calibre of singing, Dave Vanian's voice would barely have carried! Don't get me wrong, I love 'The Damned' but THIS IS the definitive version. Try listening to recorded versions by Barry. All of 'The Damned' versions are just miming to the studio recording.
