Phoenix Dust Storm Timelapse July 5, 2011

Taken from a hill at Sun Ray park in Ahwatukee (Phoenix), Arizona. Shot on my Canon 60D in at f/5.0 at 2 second intervals. This only took about 5 minutes to roll in from the time I started shooting.

Does anyone find it strange that its evening yet the sky gets blindingly brighter as the storm gets closer.. im not saying what your thinking but it could be.

I'll be the first to let you know that's actually an optical illusion created by the camera. This video is actually a series of still images taken at different exposures in order to keep the dust cloud properly exposed. As a result, the longer the exposure time of each shot, the brighter the sky appears on the video, while the cloud and ground stay about the same. In reality, it got very dark, very fast as the dust cloud rolled in.

Man ... I STILL haven't gotten around to washing off or vacuuming out all the crap that was deposited on my vehicle after this mess rolled through. Not much point to cleaning off your car during monsoon season, anyway.
