The Lumière Brothers are among the earliest pioneers of motion picture
technology. On March 19, 1895, Louis Lumière set up a camera outside
his photographic plate factory in Lyon, France and made his first
film, "La Sortie des Usines Lumière" ("Leaving the Lumiere Factories").
It ws one of several short films shown in Paris on March 22, 1895,
generally acknowledged as the date of the first ever cinema
presentation to the public. On April 22, 2011, I visited the scene of
the Factory Workers film and made my own short video. All that is left
of the original scene is the warehouse hanger in the background, now
preserved inside the present-day Institute Lumière.
Fascinating!
