Frozen - Madonna - Cover by Jake Walden

A few weeks ago I started a cover contest. After an ego boosting rollout of letters and thoughts, i of course got caught up in my own songs and would start and stop every song I chose. Finally tonight, in looking through the emails I saw "Frozen" by Madonna. As an apathetic fan, I remember somewhere in the recesses of my brain loving that video. So I watched, listened, wrote the words down on the sheet of paper you see and figured it out. It was late at night, I am at an old keyboard with the only lamp i could find. It is dedicated to Bob, who suggested it. I hope it "haunts" you, or makes you feel something

I keep going back again and again to Jake's version of this song. There's a kind of haunting, longing, urgency in the original tune that he seems to have really tapped into here. The acoustic sound lends something totally original that I can't get out of my head. The crickets in the background gives it just that much more of a sense of immediacy. It doesn't hurt that Jake is just an achingly beautiful interpreter of contemporary music.
