On the Chillicothe sub, BNSF 7285 and 7567 lead a WB stack train. Above on the Mendota sub, Amtrak's EB #6 California Zephyr with a Surfliner car on the end. January 29th, 2011 in Galesburg, IL.

  • Are you sure that's the Zephyr? I seem to recall the Southwest Chief being rerouted over the Chilicothe in the aftermath of the snowstorm, and there would be absolutely no reason for a Surfliner car to be on the Zephyr.

    As for where the Surfliner is going, it's still an Amtrak car and gets heavy maintainance and overhaul work done at Beech Grove, In. along with the rest of the fleet, so it's likely headed out there for an overhaul.

  • @fastrains56 I guess maybe it's taken towards Chicago for maintenance, kind of like when the Cascades units are seen on the Empire Builder.
